So Nick and Xeng are now married!
The Ceremony was today with the Justice of the Peace in Nick’s back yard. The party starts tomorrow. I think we are finally going to have a taste of Xeng’s Mother’s famous Rice Whiskey. Couple shots below…
It was actually a Triple Strike…

Alice’s Fancy Party Pictures
I think we can say that our house warming party was an incredible success. No one died, the cops only showed up once, and we only had one leaker.
All the graffiti, none of the mess
Really cool when matched with some longer exposures.

Way Late Update: Portland Adult Soapbox Derby!
My bad. The event was August 22nd, but I had sold my laptop and then we moved back to the Midwest two weeks later. I finally got these pictures recovered off of the extra laptop drive and processed. Working with these photos made me miss Portland even more. How long will I go before I ever see a random naked cyclist riding around the block on my way to the grocery store? Like everything else in Portland, this event was full of crazies expressing themselves constructively. No one died that I know of, but the ambulance did put on quite a few miles. Check out the gallery bellow.
SCCA Runoffs @ Road America!
Huge thanks go out to our new insurance agent and good friend Mr. Jim Rodman for scrounging up tickets to the SCCA Runoffs at Road America. Laura and I drove on up there and scoped out the biggest club racing event of the year and I was able to get a few snaps. You can check them out by clicking on the Polaroid. Enjoy!
Pictures finally up to date!
I have finally gotten all of the PDXLAN14 and Bend pictures online. Head to the Photo Repository to check them out. As a bonus I have 5 HDRs from Bend.
PDXLAN: Pre Game Bawls Fortress
Bill flew in late last night and we crashed out after taco bell. Damn you authentic staff member that didn’t understand what we ordered…
This morning we went in to help set up at PDXLAN. After having positively too much fun with duct tape we decided to take the 5 pallets of Bawls and make a play fort. All I can say is that when this thing falls over and kills someone, it won’t be the corner that I constructed that does it.
Vodka Season is upon us…
After returning from another amazing day on the farm, it dawned on me that something needed to be done. It was time to dust off our old bottles of Monopolova and revive an age old tradition. No, I’m not talking about human sacrifice. I’m talking about something we used to do every summer as a matter of principle. We must infuse vodka! Loaded with locally and deliciously sourced ingredients, I traveled to the liquor store.
It was depressing when they didn’t have three 1.75 liter bottles of Svedka, but I had to make due. I choose Svedka because infusion reacts better to grain vodkas (sorry Monopolova…) and it tastes like Absolute at the Smirnoff price point. 55 dollars later we are back in business.
My list of ingredients:
- Ginger, New Seasons
- Beets, Abundant Harvest
- French Sorrel and Lemon Basil, Abundant Harvest
- Cascade Delight Raspberries, Abundant Harvest
- Blueberries, Abundant Harvest
- Cucumber, New Seasons
- Goldenwest Raspberries, Abundant Harvest
- Beeler’s Thick Cut Uncured Bacon, New Seasons
With the results of the Infusions we are hoping to perfect certain recipes for later production. IKEA has some .5 liter bottles for like two bucks, which I hope to pick up tomorrow while helping to set up the LAN party and pick up Bill’s machine from Vancouver. The Beet infusion should be done tomorrow while some of the more subtle flavors could take a few weeks. I am looking at you delicious Beeler’s bacon.
Pictures from Nick and Xeng’s visit
Here are all the shots from Nick and Xeng’s visit to Oregon. BRB while I fix some spelling errors. Why isn’t Laura around before I do all this work…
And boom goes the dynamite…
Another 4th come and gone. I didn’t see anyone get maimed, but that wasn’t for a lack of trying. The people watching was good and this time I actually had a tripod for the fireworks. I also have some more pictures from when Nick and Xeng swung through town, and should have those up later this week.
Happy Fourth Everyone
Hopefully Ill have some awesome shots after the fireworks tomorrow night. I guess Vancouver’s fireworks got cut due to budget shortfalls, so there are going to be 60 thousand more Budweiser drinking burn ward victims in attendance this year.
While waiting for critical feedback…
I bet Laura’s reaction to the awesomeness that is shadow box Zoomify will be something similar to this:
Zoomified!
Things I have learned tonight:
- Pink Guava Juice and Vodka go well together. <3 Fubonn
- I was supposed to take the trash out today.
- If your going to write a Wordpress Plugin have the decency to actually explain how it works.
- Forget that Frenchie, Ill just use Shadowbox js.

Community Activism and EMS Response Time
Another year of Pedalpalooza has come and gone, and what good is a farewell party without a few death defying, jaw dropping, concussion granting feats of lunacy? (The spellchecker has Unicycle immediately under Lunacy by the way…) I could talk more about the event, but the 49 photos and one concussion (WEAR YOUR HELMETS KIDS) just about sums it up.
June’s Last Thursday on Alberta st.
I think that I am starting to learn the secrets to this Last Thursday thing. They are as follows:
- Get to Alberta early for The Know’s Happy Hour. $1 PBR tall boys and Iron City Pints.
- They will let you bring food in, I recommend the home made Polish Dog with Kraut and Bacon for $6.
- At 7 the street has been blocked and Happy Hour is over. Hit the street!
- Look for anything and everything out of the ordinary.
- Get $2 Fries and a Tequila or Whiskey drink if you can find the dirty hippie house off Alberta.
Theater Series Soon…
I am hoping to get out next week when all the guests leave and take some more pictures of the old theaters around town. I got out too late last night and ended up getting these shots after the sun had completely set. The process seems to produce artifacts when shot against a completely dark sky. Could be settings or a limitation of the process… I just need to shoot more. Again, clicking on the image is a /56k NO…
Steel Bridge HDR
I think I finally have the HDR thing figured out. Anyway here are my first few attempts… Click the picture for the huge ones… /56k NO!!!
Rose Festival Parade and Dragon Boat Races
Laura’s best friend from elementary school crashed the party Friday night and drunken Midwestern political discussion ensued. I am happy to report that no one sustained any life long injuries from the events that unfolded, although I am not too sure we can go back to the oyster bar for a few months. The next morning we all groggily awoke and dragged ourselves to the Rose Parade and Saturday market. Here are a few snaps…
Timbers vs. Montreal Impact!
This is the end to the weird day I was having. I bike back from the water front with one of the two thunderstorms Portland will have this year chasing me the whole way back. When I get in the door I check my email and see that my Media Pass is waiting at PGE park. I look out the window and see the monsoon outside. Sweet. Charge the camera battery and unload the destroyer pics. Find the rain gear and off I go! And it was totally worth it.
Destroyers Gallery Up!
Little did I know that this was just to be the start of my day. I bike down to the esplanade only to see the bridges up and the Coast Guard escort flying by. Cruising down the east side of the Willamette I am looking over my shoulder trying to find the perfect spot. The pier I shot from yesterday was closed by on order of the harbor master so that was out. I ended up another 100 feet south this time and set up for the pictures you can see below.
In retrospect I wish that I would have saved some memory so I could take a few more shots of the Canadian fleet that entered after the USS Shoup. Send moneys for more memory cards people! While shooting I ran into the same gentleman who I shared space with yesterday. He was shooting with some old Canon glass, and was relishing the chance to pick up some image stabilized lenses. We were joined by another guy that was going up to Alaska to act as a summer guide for four months. He also had a D200 and was shooting bracketed shots. He expressed interest in my 70-300 mm lens, saying that he wanted to get more reach than his 18-200 mm lens. We swapped for a few shots and got to check out each others’ gear. The 18-200 definitely one upped my wide angle due to the extra reach and being image stabilized, but it overlaps too much with my telephoto to be worth it. With him going up to Alaska in a few weeks and the possibility of getting shots of animals that could have an interest in eating him, I recommended Nikon’s 400 mm 2.8 . It maybe large, but its speed and image stabilization would allow for a few shots before you have to run for your life. If all else fails it would probably make a great club.
